We’ll Prescribe You a Cat
We’ll Prescribe You a Cat by Syou Ishida is a quirky little book set in Japan. In a rundown area of Kyoto down a back alley is a small office where patients go to see a psychiatrist when they have run out of hope. It is a place you only know of if someone has recommended it to you, as it is mysteriously hard to find. Here they encounter an odd, but beautiful, somewhat unfriendly nurse and an odd but friendly doctor who prescribe cats for whatever ails you.
This book is not what you think; it is sweet and funny and cat lovers will love it, but it is also strange and unexpected and surprising and thought provoking. Filled with wonder and magic realism, it’s not a book for everyone, but I found it charming and irresistible. I look forward to reading the next two books in the series.
